The Story Behind the Story : MY STORY

The Story Behind the Story : MY STORY

Owner Toya Bailey has loved fashion since she was a little girl trying to walk around the house in her mother's heels. It all started in Memphis, TN, in the trunk of her car. Owner Toya Bailey had a dream, but with little business funding to make those dreams come true. In 2010, she started selling shoes and accessories out of the trunk of her car, many to the ladies of the church and family members. With hours on top of hours put into pushing the name "Klassy chics," Toya was offered a small location in the heart of Memphis, TN (south Memphis). May 2014, with only 650Sq ft worth of building to work with, Toya opened her first store with only shoes and accessories.

In August 2016, Toya met with two gentlemen who were interested in helping her expand her business and offering clothing for ladies, accessories, and shoes. Klassy Chics Boutique was born and resided on Covington Pike (Raleigh) in Memphis, TN. Ladies from all over enjoyed the fashion sense that Toya had to offer. In December 2018, Toya had three stores in Memphis, TN, up and running. One of which was in one of the largest malls in the city. Toya's dream became a reality with over ten employees and three locations operating at full speed.

In February 2020, the world experienced something that they weren't expecting. Not only did the pandemic claim several lives, but it wiped out many businesses all over the world! The owner of Klassy Chics Boutique was now forced with one of the most saddening decisions of her life. After being forced out of the mall due to all the Malls closing down, she attempted to run her separate brick and mortals, but because everyone was quarantined, there was no need for clothing or accessories. In December 2021, Klassy Chics Boutique officially closed all three stores and opened an online market base.

As the online store transitioned over to online sales, the owner noticed the market became saturated with boutique owners, not to mention that the pieces companies like Temu and Shein can get at a ridiculously lower price gave them an upper hand to offer a lower cost to consumers. Klassy Chics Boutique had come to a complete end.

Klassy Chics Boutique ended, but not the owner's desire for fashion. As a proud member of Sigma Gamma Rho Inc., the owner decided to venture into sorority paraphernalia, starting with her sorority. Soon, she will add other sororities and fraternities. This has been a journey, and I'm so happy to have each one of you as part of it. Check out my beginning to the start of it all.
